Do you prefer dogs or cats if you have to choose one? As far as I am concerned, I preferred dogs better. I think that dogs are royalty and considerate. Otherwise, they are devoted and smart. There is a sating that dogs are human’s best friends and accompanies. But you will have to spend more time with them because they like to stay with their host. And their barking is aloud. On the contrary, the cats are more quiet and independent. And you don’t have to stay with them most of the time. Though someone say that the cats are clever, but I think that they are kind of wicked. As a result, all the animals have their own pros and cons just like we do. We should learn to appreciate all the goods.

Opinions about the treatment of animals

Some of the ways we human beings treat the animals are cruel and brutal. We deprive their freedom and ignore their right for survival. We are so selfish that we don’t care if the animals like it or not and we decided their future on our own. What we do to them is just foe our own good. We didn’t even think about how they fell. In my own opinion, wearing the animal’s hides and furs is an example. The hides and furs would make you look fashion and luxurious. That’s why lots of the celebrities and icons love wearing it. And this even once became a trend of fashion. But won’t you hear the animals’ crying when you wear it? Or have you ever imagine someone wears your skin walking on the street? The majority of these mega cities are in developing countries. What’s more, these mega cities are going to be very important in the whole world in the future. They are going to standard the way we live, and how the global economies work. On the down side, these mega cities are crowded with so much people; there also emerge a lot of problems that are waited to be solved. type='text'>Chaotic Final

Terrible final is coming. What a nightmare! The papers and the exams are overwhelming. Tempus fugit, the first semester of my university life is going to finish. How surprised! I get through this semester within the commute between my home and the school. It’s truly a hard time.

Chaotic final. I am working hard in order to pass the entire subject that I had chosen. I hope that everything will be fine at the end. The beautiful dream of being a university student has already disappeared for a log time. The responsibility is what still remained. Dear god, I need your hand.

Well, I have to say. The university life really disappoints me. I am a little bit depressing. However, things have to go on.

NO NO NO

According to the terrible participation of writing the English blog, the teacher decided to decrease the percentage of the score of the blog. But I think it’s unfair. This is the homework that we’ve already known that we have to do since this semester began. And the teacher always remind everybody in class don not forget to do so. However, lots of people don’t even listen to the words that the teacher said. Obviously, they don’t even care. I even once heard that someone said that it is too tired to renew the blog, so he would rather let it be.

If they don’t even care, why should we? If the teacher decreases the percentage of the blog for these students who held a terrible, awful attitude toward this class, then, how about the students who had already put much effort in it? Why should we let this happen? Everybody is a grownup. They should take the responsibility of themselves, shouldn’t they? Why should the hard-working students be sacrificed?
American gangster is a movie about selling drugs. And it also revealed the dirty connection between the government authority and the gangsters in the US. Taking drugs is the top crime in the United States. You will be addicted to it after just only one try.

Ellsworth “Bumpy” Johnson , a disciplined and intelligent black gangster, runs much of Harlem and imparts his wisdom onto his former driver turned right-hand man, Frank Lucas. When Johnson dies of a heart attack in 1968, at an electronics store, Frank dislikes the new, flashy gangsters and decides to take control. To gain money and power, he travels to Southeast Asia, and with the help of his cousin who is an Army Senior NCO, strikes a deal with a Thai general who supplies him with pure heroin. Frank then has the drugs transported back to America via military service planes, hidden in the coffins of seven dead U.S. soldiers from the Vietnam War.
Frank’s unique drug supply enables him to sell potent drugs (“Blue Magic” heroin) at low prices. He quickly makes a fortune and buys several nightclubs and apartments. He moves his family from North Carolina to New Jersey, where he purchases a large estate for his humble mother. His five brothers are enlisted as his lieutenants in the NYC drug trade – forming “The Country Boys,” who work together to traffic and sell dope on Harlem streets. During his rise, Frank meets and falls in love with Eva, a Puerto Rican beauty queen. Through his discipline, organization, and willingness to kill those in his way, Frank quickly rises to the top of the Harlem drug and crime scene.
Meanwhile, Essex County, New Jersey detective Richie Roberts is juggling a failing marriage, late-night law school classes, and his police career. When Richie and his partner, Javier Rivera, discover nearly $1 million in unmarked bills in a car, Richie resists temptation and turns the money in. His rare honest ways make him a hated member of his precinct, causing his partner to be exiled from the force; while Ritchie’s rampant womanizing behavior leads his wife to seek a divorce and custody of their son. After his exiled partner dies from overdosing on Blue Magic, Ritchie’s honesty catches him a break when his superior Captain Lou to back puts him in charge of a newly created task force to stop drug trafficking in New Jersey and New York City. Richie handpicks honest cops and gets to work on finding who is supplying Blue Magic.
As Frank's business prospers, he makes a point of operating quietly and dressing with a modest conservatism both as a sign of strength and to avoid attracting the attention of the law. However, Frank disregards this habit for his wife for one ostentatious night out, attending a Muhammad Ali boxing match with several known mobsters in a gaudy fur coat and hat, and with a ring-side seat. As it happens, Roberts is on duty observing the event and sees this unknown, but obviously wealthy, person associating with high-level criminals, as well as having better seats than the Italian mafia. Robert becomes suspicious, and he begins to investigate this unknown (to him) figure in New York organized crime.
Even as Frank realizes he has exposed himself to police scrutiny, he must make deals with the Italian mafia and fend off corrupt NYC detectives, such as Det. Trupo, who extort and threaten him. He must also contend with local crime figure Nicky Bames, who is taking some of Frank's product, diluting it himself, and selling it under Frank's "brand" name. Unidentified assassins try to kill Frank’s wife, further destabilizing him and worsening his unsteady marriage. Things finally turn to the worst when Frank sees the U.S. Military vacating Vietnam, which in turn cuts off his primary heroin transportation.
Richie catches another break when his men witness the driver of one of Frank’s top soldiers shooting a woman. They use the driver’s bad predicament to get him to wear a wire. The wire allows Richie and his task force to discover when a plane carrying drugs is landing. Meanwhile, Trupo leads his band of police officers to Frank's mother's mansion where they take Frank's emergency cash supply. When the plane lands, Richie and his men follow the drugs into Harlem’s projects and obtain a warrant. A huge group of police and detectives attack the drug apartments en masse and a large shootout occurs. Frank is at church when the bust goes down, but he is arrested after the service ends. Frank and Richie finally meet, and Frank’s attempts to bully Richie are unsuccessful.
With no other options, Frank decides to provide names of numerous other criminals, including his and Richie’s common enemies: corrupt NYC detectives. Numerous corrupt cops are arrested; Det. Trupo kills himself to avoid arrest. Richie, having passed the Bar Exam, prosecutes Frank, but he leaves the prosecutor's office after the Lucas trial. The first client he takes after becoming a defense attorney is Frank. Because of his cooperation, Frank receives a relatively light sentence of 15 years rather than the original 70. At the film’s end, he steps out of jail to the sounds and era of the 1990s, significantly older and out of place.

Well, this is a shocking movie for me. After this, we should always stay away from drugs.

A new year’s coming also means the other is leaving. 2008 is a totally new one. And the 2007 has already left. The fabulous firework lit on everybody’s hope but also means to send off the 2007.

2007 was a really special year for me. It was beautiful and transient. I became an adult in this year, I got into a university. The half year of the beginning I studied around the clock in order to get into a good university. Though the result at the end wasn’t good enough, but at least I go to one. The after part of the year I became a freshman in a new place. Honestly, the life was not as interesting as I thought. But at least I have more free time. I am still working hard to get used to this surrounding. I don’t want to be defeated by it. What’s more, I met a great one in this year. He is really great. He taught me a lot. Including studying, reading, thinking and Christianity. I changed a lot because of him. And he truly gave me a great time. I’ll never forget.

2008 is now going. I believe that everyone has a lot of wishes toward this New Year. And so do I. I wish that I can smoothly pass the exam that I am going to take. And I’ve already working on it. Another is that I wish that my family and my loved ones can be happy and healthy all the time. Last but not the least; I’ll keep it in my heart.

Happy 2008.

Elizabeth : The Golden Age

Growing keenly aware of the changing religious and political tides of late 16th century Europe, Queen Elizabeth finds her rule openly challenged by the Spanish King Philip II -- with his powerful army and sea-dominating armada -- determined to restore England to Catholicism. Preparing to go to war to defend her empire, Elizabeth struggles to balance ancient royal duties with an unexpected vulnerability in her love for Sir Walter Raleigh. But he remains forbidden for a queen who has sworn body and soul to her country. Unable and unwilling to pursue her love, Elizabeth encourages her favorite lady-in-waiting, Bess, to befriend Raleigh to keep him near. But this strategy forces Elizabeth to observe their growing intimacy. As she charts her course abroad, her trusted advisor, Sir Francis Walsingham, continues his masterful puppetry of Elizabeth 's court at home -- and her campaign to solidify absolute power. Through an intricate spy network, Walsingham uncovers an assassination plot that could topple the throne. But as he unmasks traitors that may include Elizabeth 's own cousin Mary Stuart, he unknowingly sets England up for destruction.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Lots of people were eager to be an emperor or an empress of a strong empire. Everybody wants to be a ruler. Everybody wants to be powerful and rich. However, no one noticed the tears behind the entire glorious surface.

It is really difficult for a woman to rule a huge empire. The queen Elisabeth was truly a strong and a wise woman. She has to bear lots of stress. Within this movie, her cousin tries to murder her in order to replace her position. The follower of the opposite religion also tries to assassinate her in order to downcast. Death may come any minute though she is a queen. Who can she trust? Who can she depend on? Who can save her? All she got is herself.

As a queen, she never knows what’s called love. Her relatives try to kill her. The wooer covets her status. She never enjoyed the sincere love. What she is has become a huge gap between everyone and she. She is always so lonely. She never knows what the most beautiful thing in the world is.

She has no freedom. Now that she is the queen of the United Kingdom, she has the responsibility toward all her people. She has to fight for them. She has to be strong for them. She has to devote all her life for them. Everybody is watching her every step. Though she is the biggest person of the entire kingdom, she has no privacy and freedom.

After this movie, I was really moved by the things she did for the great kingdom. She said that there are so many planets in the solar system so there must be some other “guys” on other planets. Still more, the solar system is just one of the small galaxies in the universe. And she also believes that the aliens are much more advanced than us, the human beings.

Well, actually, she not only thinks of alien as a normal existence, but also as a holy religion.

She tried hard to convince us that it is a meaningful and valid religion. In her words, there are no complicated ceremonies and doctrines. However, it pays to be true to yourself. What’s more, she also believes that the earth is going to explode in the near future. At that time, everyone on earth will die except those who believe in the aliens will survive at the end. Because the aliens will send a spaceship or UFO for saving the lives of their follower.

While you listened, you would think that it is so stupid that could not help laughing. Some of you might to dismiss with a laugh. She is serious nonetheless. She even said that her mind can connect with the aliens’. More importantly, they are unable to say no to seekers of help.

Well, the only thing I could comment is that I think she is very imaginative. I do believe that there may be some aliens. But I am not sure if they will come to rescue us when we needed？

How about you？ Do you believe that？

Coco Chanel

I’ve read an issue about “perfume” recently. It said that the history of perfume goes back at least five thousand years. To the time during the ancient Egyptians burned incense, used ointments in religious ceremonies, and applied fragrant oils to the skin for medicine and cosmetics. In many ways, perfume hasn’t changed much over the millennia, and its popularity has certainly not diminished.

Although perfume has always been popular, only with the development of cities did it’s production become a big business. Just like toady, lots of girls around still use it in order to catch boys’ attention.

But as a student, I think we still need to figure out that we come to study in school. Not for a beauty contest. We should do what we should do. There’s needed not to be generously dressed.

As a result, perfume is one of the best friends of women’s.

If I Won a Lottery

Winning a lottery is what lots of people dreaming about every day, especially a big one. However, I am no exception.

If I won a lottery, I would quit school first. I do not want to be trapped in the campus and the educational system. But I would still learn things from school. I just don’t want to follow the schedule and the rules of scores. I just want to attend the classes that I like only. Accordingly, I would save more time for cultivating my own interest. For instance, I would like to take some music classes in order to rebuild and polish my ability of playing flute. What’s more, I want to enjoy some concert of great musician or band.

Next, I want to buy a lot of books. I love reading. Some books are inspiring, some are touching. We can learn not only knowledge from reading a book, but also lots of kind of emotions. And by reading books can improve our writing ability. More importantly is that I can learn a lot of different things from different writers’ point of view. It can also broaden my horizons, enrich my cognition.

After doing all that above, I want to travel to Dubai. I want to live in the fanciest hotel in the world and enjoy the most deluxe services. I believe that I would be treated like a exalted princess.

Well, all I said was all just dreaming. After all, who we can depend on is ourselves. Hard working is the most important thing right now.

The Journey of X'mas Tree

The Christmas is around the corner. Today, my friend and I decided to take a trip to Xing-Yi section in order to enjoy all the beautiful Christmas trees that decorated by the department stores around there. We are excited about the coming of Christmas, although we know there won’t be a Santa Claus.

When we arrived at the destination, the sky was getting darker. Lots of neon lights are lit. The whole Xing-Yi section became mysterious and charming. The atmosphere right there was awesome.

We saw SWAROVSKI’s Christmas tree, which was a silver shinning one. Another Christmas tree owns to 101 was rounded by blue neon lights. Cartier’s was a special one which was decorated with a lot of red bows. This one makes your heart feel warm and sweet. But in my opinion, the most beautiful one is the one in front of the Taipei city hall. Well, maybe because it’s bigger and much more shinning than others.

Toady, we’ve enjoyed so many lovely Christmas tree. We felt very satisfied and joyful. Somehow immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City ...and maybe the world. But he is not alone. He is surrounded by "the Infected"--victims of the plague who have mutated into carnivorous beings who can only exist in the dark and who will devour or infect anyone or anything in their path. For three years, Neville has spent his days scavenging for food and supplies and faithfully sending out radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. All the while, the Infected lurk in the shadows, watching Neville's every move, waiting for him to make a fatal mistake. Perhaps mankind's last, best hope, Neville is driven by only one remaining mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood. But his blood is also what The Infected hunt, and Neville knows he is outnumbered and quickly running out of time.

-------------------------------------------------------------

This is a hot movie that has just released. I went to the movie according to the exciting plot and the famous movie star, Will Smith. After seeing the movie, there is a lot to be thinking about.

First of all, we shall talk about the manmade virus. People always thought that what they’re doing is good for human beings. But actually, it’s harmful. With the advanced science and technology, the world is getting more and more convenient and highly develops. Thus, we, as human beings, are so ambitious that even thought that we could control the whole world. We thought that we’ve already had the ability to fight against the nature. We thought that we could be the god. However, we are all wet. Something we thought that it would be under control always become out of control. I think that everybody should do their own part. What’s more importantly is we should take the responsibility of what we have done. We should treasure what we have.

Secondary, I want to talk about the unfairness between poverty and wealthy people. In spite of the nature disaster or the virus contagious, the riches and the politician can retreat first. And no one cares about the poverty’s life. The biggie can retreat by the plan or the helicopter but the poverty can’t. Why？ I should all think about this question. Everybody’s life is a life. We cannot sacrifice theirs for others.

Last but not least, a person with selfless is above price. We should always help those who in need if we are able to do so. No matter we know them or not. I really do believe that the selfless love can hold the whole world together.

After all, it’s a good movie that worthwhile seeing.

My Student

Since I became an English tutor of two junior high school students, I finally come to realize the feeling that how much a teacher wants to push their students in order to get a higher grade.

When I was just a student, I always wondered that how come a teacher really do want their students to get a good grade？ Well, I mean, we’re not her children at all. But now, I can exactly understand what kind of the feeling is it. The second mid-term examination had just ended. One of my students improved his grade in English, but the other one had the opposite. I am a little disappointed. On the one hand, I did a hard work in helping him learning English. He told me that he hates the English teacher he has in school so he didn’t even pay any attention to her in class. That’s why his English is terrible. Accordingly, I need to start it over again. When talking about grammar, he knows nothing. I am truly frustrated. Regardless of the frustration, I still did my best to help him. However, his attitude toward learning really piss me off. He would rather to complain than to memorize the vocabularies on the textbook.

On the other hand, he not only didn’t get any improvement in the exam, but backslide. Well, I don’t know what to do. He said that he hates studying and he is really bad in English. But for me, these words were all excuses. I know that he didn’t even try hard. These words were just only to make himself feel better.

Now, I think that I need to change the way that I treat him. But how？ Yet I haven’t figured it out.

My Music Story

According to the issue, music, which we’re talking about in the English class, I want to share an unforgettable and meaningful experience of mine with everybody.

Once, I was a member of an orchestra in school. I played flute. I was not only the chief of the flute, but also the bandmaster. During the time, music was everything.

I started to learn music since I was little. Without a doubt, it took me a lot of time and spirit to grow out of nothing. As time goes by, it is time for me to decide which musical instrument to major in. I was ambivalence. Although I really do want to learn piano, but there was not enough space for one in my room. As a result, I give it up reluctantly. I chose flute, however.

On the way of learning flute was full of thistles and thorns at the beginning. Everything was terrible. I seldom practiced playing it. What’s worst, I don’t like it at all. The sound that I made from the flute was so awful that I even been scolded by my parents. I was truly frustrated. I was depressed. I wanted to escape from the field of music. “What a nightmare.” I thought.

There’s always a turning point. The step is on the track till I met the teacher, who inspired me the most. She encouraged me a lot in order to help me rebuilt my confident and the interest in music. She even taught me the optimistic attitude toward learning. In the process of psychology construction, her patient and considerate moved me. I decided to work harder than ever in return for her and also my parents.

Practice makes perfect, that’s what I believe in. I made an effort in improving the skills and in the sound. God helps those who help themselves. One year after, I deliver the goods of everybody. I stood out in a keen competition, became the only new member of the orchestra in playing flute.

Listening to music is one thing, to perform one is another. To take part in an orchestra is totally new for me; nevertheless, everything needs hard work. Everyone in the orchestra is a part of a machine. Everyone is important and if anyone goes wrong, the whole performance would screw up. To make things perfect, we all need to polish our own ability with all one’s mind. We have to go all out for every performance. Actually, to ensemble on stage is a lot differ from solo. The chord is the top priority while an instrumental ensemble, therefore, the harmonious team work is indispensable.

No thorns, no throne. After prepared for so long, we finally won the first prize in the competition of whole Taiwan. We’re the champion of Taiwan. Lots of people were so happy that couldn’t help but burst into tears. Every thing is worth. We had overcome all the barriers in front of us eventually. I am so proud of myself. The glorious was the most precious gift for us. Most importantly, the experiences and memories between all of us will never disappear.

Music can be said to be a universal language. As far as I am concerned, music helps me to find my own self. I firmly believe that the more I am evolved with music, the more I’ll get out of it. I had learned a great lesson from music and I believe that I’ll put this inside my heart forever.

To sum up, music is one of the most important teachers in my life long. And I will never forget the anfractuosities of learning music. It truly means a lot to me. The colorful and meaningful experience will be with me all my life.

Living with Less

Everywhere I go these days, big is in. My combo meal is super-sized, my SUV is third row, and the TV of my dreams is 62-inch plasma. We Americans are big eaters, big spenders, and big wasters. Even our churches are into big, owning big malls and even bigger coliseums in order to accommodate big crowds and enable big growth. Like the population at large, we Christians seem to have a growing acceptance of the bigger is better credo.
But all this growth might be creating some big problems.
Our society and systems seem unable of handling the never-ceasing expansion of want and need. Our souls are groaning and the planet is buckling beneath the collateral damage of growth. Landfills are full, the air is thick, and we cannot drink from many of our streams.
In light of our growing problems, maybe the church should give small a chance. I propose that ministry leaders are just the ones to help Christ followers exchange big for small. After all, leaders are supposed to help usher others toward something better (not just something bigger), so maybe we should start ushering folks toward living lives that are less hectic, less cluttered, less selfish and less toxic. And maybe instead of a big ad campaign advertising "LESS!" we should start living with less ourselves. Instead of the pulpit, maybe some personal choices would help slow down the growth, bring some sanity to our lives and make the world more livable.
Give less a chance. Our family recently decided to sell our riding mower because its impact on the environment was not offset by its necessity. Shortly after, my wife quipped, "I think we're becoming tree-huggers."
How had it come to this? After all, I have a strong dislike of Birkenstocks, I think Michael Moore is a narcissist, and I appreciate creature comforts every bit as much as the next guy. So why is my family choosing to push-mow the lawn, ditch the extra television, and experiment with line-drying our clothes? I'm not sure how it all began or where it's going, but we've adopted a series of small questions that are redirecting our souls and may be benefiting the world around us.
Three small questionsNot to cast blame, but my journey toward less started with Randy Frazee. Prior to a conference in 2003, Randy and I had a dinner conversation during which he shared with me the somewhat radical lifestyle changes his family had made in order to make room for real relationships.
A few months later Randy wrote the book Making Room for Life. When my wife and I read that book, we started talking and eventually began asking the question of simplification, "Even though something is commonplace, do we really need it in our lives?"
With that question in mind, all sorts of things were up for grabs: buying a house in the "right" school district, needing two incomes, cell phones, minivans, and even (hold your breath!) signing our kids up for soccer. It was like a little compact fluorescent light bulb turned on to illuminate some of the chains of conformity we had allowed to make our decisions for us. We began to see how deeply we'd bought into culture's code of success being equated with more and more. The results of all this "more" were clutter and confusion and so we decided to simplify our lives. Removing some of the typical suburban clutter was a bit scary, but over the course of a few years, it really has begun to make room for life.
We soon discovered the joy of having fewer bills to pay, fewer trips to make, fewer calendars to juggle, and fewer agendas to manage. Lurking amidst the resource of free time, we discovered the pleasure of not just having neighbors, but of knowing our neighbors. Our lives soon began to revolve more and more around the half dozen or so families we considered to be our neighbors.
We soon recognized that our role as good neighbors meant significantly other than trying to get someone to attend this or that church. As we experienced the inherent value of people and place, we began to ask, "How can we live so that when Christ returns he won't have to work so hard to redeem our neighborhood?" This became our family's question of significance. We want to add kingdom value to the relational, spiritual and even physical environment we inhabit. Our interactions with neighbors have gone from enjoying their company to co-laboring with them for the good of our little corner of creation. Campfires in the backyard, pizza on Sunday nights, and building a tree house all took on kingdom significance because we were contributing to making things in our acres of earth a little more as they are in heaven.
From significance we took the small step to stewardship. A couple of months ago we picked up a book by medical doctor Matthew Sleeth entitles Serve God, Save the Planet. We've read with wide wonder about the ways his family scaled back their "quality of life" in order to have less impact on the planet. They got rid of their dishwasher and clothes dryer. They traded down to a house the size of their former garage. They produce a small bag of garbage every other week. Wow.
Reading such stories helps us see how a radical lifestyle aligns with living God's way. Now our family is asking the question of stewardship, "Will this choice make the world more like heaven or more like hell?" Our neighborhood of concern has expanded dramatically. Landfills, toxins, and making choices based on our own wants: these are the ingredients of hell. The new heaven and new earth will include none of these things, so why should we add them to this world now? When we choose concern over convenience and less over more, we are being kind to neighbors we have never met and honoring creatures God thought worthy of life.
Go thou and do likewiseI don't think our family is unique. We fight consumerism and selfishness and choices of convenience perhaps more than does the typical family of five. But small realizations are leading to simple questions that force important decisions in our everyday life (including which mower to use). All of this matters not because the environment is suddenly a hot topic, or because we worship Mother Earth, or think our spit will fill the ocean, but because the dots suddenly connect: when I live a gospel life I desire less stuff for myself, which frees up time and space for heavenly community, and this community includes places and people far away and even in the future.
So what does living and leading with less look like for you? What about your congregation? What if those you lead followed your example in removing the clutter, focusing on community and caring for creation? My hunch is that God would be pleased, you would find life more livable and the planet would breath a deep sigh of gratitude.

http://lists.christianitytoday.com/t/8706752/5750981/138643/0/

How Integrity Grows

Your spiritual companions are more important than you may realize.by Fred Smith, Leadership consulting editor

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Our friendships not only define us, but develop and energize us. I have found a new, profitable companion—Francois Fenelon, the French mystic of three hundred years ago. He and Oswald Chambers are my daily counsel. They differ in that Oswald Chambers was a teacher expounding principles to a group with each person applying it to himself or herself, while Fenelon was a mentor to an individual and focused on specific situations.

For 41 years I have read Chambers's My Utmost for His Highest. I discovered Fenelon's The Seeking Heart a short five years ago. After just a few pages, I was hooked. Fenelon was a contemporary and friend of Jeanne Guyon, and both suffered for their faith—she in prison for ten years and he exiled to oblivion after rising to one of the highest offices in the French court.

Here are some themes of Fenelon's that have been most helpful to me. With our lives rooted in these immutable principles, we can be like the willow tree, with branches and leaves flexible to the changing winds and the roots stable in the realities of life.

1. Self-love is subtle.I have a friend who points out how self-love constantly changes to keep from being recognized. It is like the way a virus changes to avoid extermination. For example, self-love can come in the guise of guilt: "How could anyone as good as I do anything that bad?" Or a desire for purity might be evidence of self-love—in our wanting God to make us a showcase example, desiring to sit on the right hand of God. Even the desire to be significant, rather than the desire to do significant things, can be a form of self-love.

Fenelon says, "Do not listen to the voice that suggests you live for yourself. The voice of self-love is even more powerful than the voice of the serpent." Again, "Self-love brings great anxiety." Or, "You will be tempted to speak out in a humble tone of voice to tell others of your problems. Watch out for this. A humility that is still talkative does not run very deep. When you talk too much, your self-love relieves his sense of shame a little."

Fenelon goes on to say, "Self-love is proud of its spiritual accomplishments…. While on the outside you seem to be only concerned with the glory of God, the unconquered self nature deep within is causing you trouble. I am sure that you want God to be glorified, but you want his glory to be expressed through the testimony that he has made you perfect. Let me tell you that this feeds self-love. It is simply a covetous guise of the self nature."

When I read that, I remembered attending Billy Graham's sixtieth birthday in Charlotte, North Carolina, when dignitaries, both in industry and religion, had lavishly praised him. He stood to acknowledge their remarks and opened by quoting the Scripture, "God will not share his glory with another," and then asked that they not tempt him with their praise even though he appreciated it tremendously. It was a high moment of worship.

2. Suffering is useful.Fenelon speaks of suffering as God's exercise program, his gymnasium, and I can hear myself complaining to God, "You're getting me muscle-bound."

Here are some excerpts: "Suffering is necessary for all of us. You will be purified by dying to your own desires and will. Let yourself die. You have excellent opportunities for this to happen. Don't waste them." For years I have liked the saying, "Never lose the good from a bad experience."

He goes on: "My God, help us to see Jesus as our model in all suffering. You made him a man of sorrows. Teach us how useful sorrow is."

Fenelon writes, "God never makes you suffer unnecessarily. He intends for your suffering to heal and purify you. The hand of God hurts you as little as it can. The yoke that God gives is easy to bear if you accept it without struggling to escape."

The yoke, I believe, is easy and comfortable as long as we pull together with the Lord, but when we try to escape, the yoke becomes more like the bit in the horse's mouth. Sometimes we hear people trying to define the difference between God's discipline and God's blessing. I don't believe that we can know, at the time, which is which. Indeed, often as we look back we can see that the discipline was the blessing.

3. One test of relation with God is peace.Recently I was talking to a disturbed Christian business executive. I suggested that he immediately find a knowledgeable theologian who could help him find the spiritual source of his turmoil. Any Christian without peace needs attention.

Fenelon recommends, "Encourage peace, become deaf to your overactive imagination. Your spinning imagination will harm your health and make your spiritual life very dry. You worry yourself sick for no good reason. Inner peace and the sweet presence of God are chased away by restlessness."

Fenelon also writes, "Peace and comfort are to be found only in simple obedience. Remain at peace, for peace is what God wants for you no matter what is happening. There is in fact a peace of conscience which sinners should enjoy as they are repenting. Suffering should be peaceful and tempered with God's comfort."

Peace does not mean absence of tumult; it can mean security amid the tumult. When I was a small child in church, I heard a minister tell the story of how a wealthy man wanted a picture of peace. Various artists tried different approaches, from a quiet pastoral scene to moonlit nights on the water, but the artist who won painted a bird's nest in a small tree on the edge of a waterfall.

4. Growth and change are the work of the Cross.Fenelon has helped me to think of the work of the Cross—redemption—as the constant tension of growth and change as the old nature gives way to the new. It is a process that starts with the new birth and ends at the close of our earthly journey, by which time we are, we hope, more mature in the likeness of Christ. I'm reminded of the oft-quoted prayer: "Lord, I'm not what I ought to be and I'm not what I'm going to be, but thank you, Lord, I'm not what I used to be."

Some well-meaning Christians confuse the thorn and the cross. The thorn, to me, is something God puts in our lives that keeps us conscious of our dependence on him. Paul had the thorn; Jacob had the limp. The thorn is a constant reminder, but each day I must make the conscious decision to shoulder the cross and go forward.

Fenelon writes, "Bear your cross. Do you know what this means? Learn to see yourself as you are and accept your weakness until it pleases God to heal you. If you die a little every day of your life, you won't have too much to worry about on your final day."

Then with assurance he says, "You and I are nothing without the cross. I agonize and cry when the cross is working within me, but when it is over I look back in admiration for what God has accomplished. Of course I am then ashamed I bore it so poorly."

5. Give grace to yourself and others. One of Fenelon's biographers noted, "He was a pleasant person to be around. He had an admirable presence." I have come to think of him as having the presence of Billy Graham, the optimism of Norman Vincent Peale, and the serving spirit of Mother Teresa, though I am sure Fenelon would rap my knuckles for writing that.

Regarding self, Fenelon writes, "Do not be surprised to find yourself overly sensitive, impatient, proud and self-willed. Realize that this is your natural disposition. Bear with yourself but do not flatter yourself into thinking you are better than you are but wait on God's timing to transform it. Stop at once when your activities become too hurried. Do not be eager, even for good things."

Regarding others, Fenelon writes, "The daily standards that you live by should not be relaxed in any way, yet you must deal gently with the faults of others. Learn to be lenient with the less important matters but maintain your firmness over that which is essential. Remember that true firmness is gentle, humble, and calm. A sharp tongue, a proud heart, and an iron hand have no place in God's work. Wisdom sweetly orders all things."

"Stay away from people who sound good but never exhibit true fruit of the inward walk. Their talk is deceptive and you will almost always find them restless, fault-finding and full of their own thoughts. These spiritual busybodies are annoyed with everything and are almost always annoying."

As I read Fenelon, I could almost hear him encouraging the readers of his letters the way Paul encouraged the church: "Follow me as I follow Christ." Run the race with patience and complete the course and your reward will be "Well done, good and faithful servant."

This article was originally printed in The Pastor's Soul Volume 5: Leading With Integrity, copyright © 1999. I really have to say that the college life wasn’t as fun as I thought. And the free time wasn’t enough, too. To commute from home to the campus takes me almost four hours and a hundred and fifty dollars a day. That’s amazing, right？ However, seems that I didn’t get enough for that pay.

Not only the weather, but also the relationship between people is getting colder and colder recently. Why？ Can anyone answer？ The blue atmosphere folds everyone around me. Melancholy lasts. Missing someone with blue. Facing a serious dilemma. How sad.

I had expected for the winter for a long time, but now it has already became my nightmare. The hand of the clock keep going on, the world keep turning. I hope that all of the bad things can vanish within a second. And I wish that I can be lucky. The winter has just come, but I am looking forward for the spring already.

Quick note

As a globalization citizen, first, we need to have a worldwide point of view. I’ve already mentioned the opinion of how to develop a world view. Now, I’m going to talk about being a globalization citizen.

Take the free-rice website that I recommended as an example, besides playing the challenging vocabulary game, something is much more meaningful beyond it. The natural resources on earth are unequally distributed. This makes some of the people always be the minority. The game wants to arouse our attention to those who are suffering for starvation. As a globalization citizen, we should all care about this issue.

As a result, I think the first step to be a globalization citizen is to concern what’s happening right away.
Churchgoing

I started to read the Bible since this summer vacation because my boyfriend is a holy Christian. When I was a child, I entered a Christian elementary school. Since then, I was eager to know what the holy Bible wrote. And the bible is the most widely read book in the world. In order to keep track on the trend of the whole world, I asked him to send me a Bible.

After reading for couple months, I have already finished it. So many words inside were really excellent and considerate. I couldn’t even believe that there is someone so benevolent and kind. I was so moved by the actions he took in order to save many people from suffering the serious diseases and the swallowed actions to pure the sin people. Some of the stories inside the Bible were so incredible. Therefore, the symbolization was still beautiful. Other fables were fascinating, too. I really like it.

I have gone to church with him for several times. The most impressive thing is the dulcet melody. Everyone who attended the ceremony sang loudly from the deep of their heart. The picture was amazing. The words told from the priest were meaningful, too. I think that there’s truly a good place to visit at the weekend. You can learn a lot from there, and you can also get a lot of warm from there.

As a result, churchgoing is a really special experience.

check it out !!!

According to the last blog that I wrote, today I want to recommend a good website. As a citizen of this global village, each one of us, whatever country we are from, has to compete or cooperate with not only our fellow countrymen but other people around the world as well. On the other hand, what happens in Middle Eastern country like Iraq may have a great influence on many other countries elsewhere in the world. As a result, it is necessary for all of us to have a world view.

How can we develop a world view? To begin with, we should gain some understanding of people as well as cultures of various countries. After all, the world is made up of nations of diverse people and cultures. If we are ignorant of these, it will be impossible for us to cultivate an unbiased world view. And in my opinion, the best way to expose ourselves to a foreign culture and to understand people of a different nation is to travel to that country. Only by getting along with the native people and experiencing the life they live in person, can we really understand the differences between the foreign culture and our own. For example, I once took a trip to Australia, and after personal interaction with them, I found that the Australians were not arrogant and unfriendly as I thought but full of passion. They don't really look down on our skin color and they do know a lot about Taiwan’s culture. No matter how far we are from them, they are still concerned about us. This does impress me a lot. If I had not taken the trip, I probably would have had this misunderstanding about them all my life.

Another good way to develop a world view is to take part in international activities, such as "International Student Festival” or "International Youth Summit Meeting". Through these activities, we may come to realize how differently people handle problems, how diverse people's attitudes toward issues are, or what similarities people from different nations share, all of which broaden our horizons and that in turn helps us to develop a world view. Take myself for example. After I joined the "30 Hour Famine” activity held by the World Vision Organization, I realized what a miserable life poor people in Africa lived and that we should show more concern for the needy people on earth. After all, we live in a global village.

Without a doubt, if we have little idea what is going on around the world, we will not have a world view. Therefore, it is essential to pay more attention to things that happen globally. We can watch the news on TV, especially CNN, or read newspapers like the New York Times to help ourselves keep abreast of world trends and events happening around us.

Last but not least, we must have an open mind and hold a liberal attitude toward different cultures and ethnic groups, for almost all misunderstandings or conflicts result from being subjective and individualistic. Moreover, we must respect and appreciate the differences among various cultures. For instance, westerners show respect to the rituals of Buddhism and oriental people appreciate the beauty of Christian churches.

With all the tips mentioned above, I believe that we all can learn to be open-minded citizens of this global village that we call earth.

Melancholy Last

Everything seems always likes to mass up together. The mid-term is coming; there is still a lot need to be prepared. Nevertheless, the atmosphere in both school and classes is terrible. Most of the classmates in my class sound like in a bad mood. Many girls had a serious fight with their boyfriends. They are sad, and we could not even do anything to help. I hope that they can be happy and find their bliss back.

I set inside the classroom, my soul is not. Some of the classes that I have to take are meaningless. What kind of the teacher is that？ What the hell she’s teaching？ Some teachers might have a serious problem in expressing themselves and the knowledge. The class makes students want to escape whether he/she has a lot of knowledge or not. Cause we couldn’t even know what is he/she talking about. In this type of circumstances, staying in the classroom is kind of wasting our time.

Other teachers just can’t figure out how to hold the atmosphere well in class. So students think they’re bored. As a result, the students fall asleep. And dead air is the only thing that still surrounded the class. How terrible is this！

As a student in the school, we are poor. If we do something wrong, we will be punished in many ways. But how about the teachers？ Who’s going to discipline them？ Who is going to stand up for us？ Well……can anyone hear？

BLUE OCTOBER LYRICS -- "Hate Me"

"Hate Me"

(If you're sleeping are you dreamingIf your dreaming are you dreaming of me?I can't believe you actually picked me.)

(i Justin, this is your mother, and it's 2:33 on Monday afternoon.I was just calling to see how you ware doing. You sounded really uptight last night. It made me a little nervous, and a l... and... well... it made me nervous, it sounded like you were nervous, too.I just wanted to make sure you were really OK,And wanted to see if you were checking in on your medication. You know I love you, and...Take care honeyI know you're under a lot of pressure.See ya. There's a burning in my pride, a nervous bleeding in my brain. An ounce of peace is all I want for you. Will you never call again? And will you never say that you love me just to put it in my face? And will you never try to reach me? It is I that wanted space.

Hate me today. Hate me tomorrow. While I was busy waging wars on myself, you were trying to stop the fight. You never doubted my warped opinions on things like suicidal hate. You made me compliment myself when it was way too hard to take. So I'll drive so fucking far away that I never cross your mind. And do whatever it takes in your heart to leave me behind.

Hate me today. Hate me tomorrow. Hate me for all the things I didn't do for you. Hate me in ways. Yeah ways hard to swallow. Hate me so you can finally see what's good for you. And with a sad heart I say bye to you and wave. Kicking shadows on the street for every mistake that I had made. And like a baby boy I never was a man. Until I saw your blue eyes cry and I held your face in my hand. And then I fell down yelling ake it go away!?

br> Just make a smile come back and shine just like it used to be. It’s necessary in our life in order to get along with other people. A person with a sense of humor always makes people laugh. He can create a pleasant social atmosphere and with others’ friendship. We are often attracted to those who have a sense of humor.

However, a person without a sense of humor always takes life too seriously. He may lose his natural vitality and feel life is no laughing matter. Then he may become a dull, tiresome person. And we see fewer and fewer smiles; hear less and less laughter around us in our daily life. What a boring thing it is！ Therefore, we must never forget that a sense of humor helps us keep life in perspective.

In conclusion, be humorous and you will be an optimistic person and lead a colorful life.

HW3

1、I think my listening level about CEF is C2；Reading is C1.
I can communicate with foreigners fluently, but when it comes to some professional issues, I can’t figure it out all. Instead of as a student there, I am an English assistant. What I need to do is to translate the words that the American teacher says. It’s an easy job for me. I wanted to get used to the English speaking environment, and I want my English abilities to be polished. Actually, I was the champion of the English speaking contest in the Taipei city, and I don’t have to take any English class in junior and senior high school. (I mean the class in school.) This also means that the English class in university is my first time.

Accordingly, I am confident in my listening and speaking ability. Moreover, I am particular in the pronunciation that a Chinese teacher have. I’ve already passed the GEPT high intermediate level when I was in the third grade of junior high. That’s why I don’t have to take the English class in senior high. Now that I have a chance to have an English class at school, I’ll treasure it very much.

As an English assistant in the English school, I’ve learned a lot. As a teacher, you not only have to teach the students the knowledge they have to know, but also have to devote yourself to concern about them. You need to be responsible for the teaching, more importantly; you need to be not the parents but the friends of them. Some of the students are shy, whether they’re eager to know something, they still afraid to ask. So, we, as an assistant, have to be active and friendly. We have to make the students feel more comfortable. What’s more, the foreign teacher asks us to cheer the students up. He wants the students all have confident in English.

After working as an assistant right there, I learned a lot. I truly appreciate the teacher gave me this opportunity. And I want to show my appreciation to all the good teachers. Thanks to all of you who devoted so much for your students.

Let's Jazz!!!!!

I attended my first pop-dance class last Thursday. One of my best friends in university is very good at pop-dance. She was a member of the pop-dance club in senior high school. The wonderful experience that she had in dancing made her couldn’t help but still want to keep on dancing. As a result, she asked me to join the pop-dance club in university with her. I was a little hesitated at the beginning, but finally I was moved by her passion.

I thought that the class for freshman would start from the basic rhythm. However, I was wrong. After a terrible series of warm-up for half an hour, the class started. A cute and dynamic teacher showed up. The cadenced music she played truly inspired the desire of dancing. She demonstrated the action first and then we followed her. After practice for a long time, we connected all the actions together and danced them completely.

Soon, two hours had passed. My friend commented that I was pretty good. She said that maybe I was gifted. I was to be aching all over, but I was so exciting that I don’t care about the pain. Nevertheless, the wonderful experience will lasts forever.

* THE GIFT FROM HEAVEN *

According to a well known saying, “No man is an island.” No one can live alone. Friendship is to human beings what water is to all creatures. It’s indispensable.

Friendship can provide us with support and security. When we’re happy, they share happiness with us. And, when we are in trouble, they give us a hand, stay with us and support us. Thus, friends are precious gifts in our life.

Fortunately, I’ve met a wonderful friend in university. She is a nice girl with big bright eyes. She is very patient and considerate. Besides, she is also generous and ready to help others. When we are together, we always share our joys and sorrows with each other. She always listens to me with a smile on her face.

I think I am lucky to have her as my good friend. It’s the day that I am going to take my first quiz of calculus in my university life. Mathematics is a horrible nightmare for most of the students major in humanities. Nevertheless, I think it’s quite fun and challenging. On the one hand, mathematics can train us with our thinking ability. It can improve the way we understand one thing and also improve our logic. On the other hand, it makes our life more exciting. I am not the one who likes to live in a plain and bland life, and I would like to learn more things from different areas. Calculus is a bit challenging, and I hope that I am equipped to beat it. Last but not least, learning mathematics force us to be specific. As a result, there are many advantages of learning calculus. Some of my friends might think of me as a geeky. But what I want to say is that, I was a poor learner in math when I was in my first grade of senior high. Although my grade in math was terrible, I still work hard. In order to catch up with others, I did a lot of math exercises and even went to a cram school. Finally, I made a lot of progress in it. As the proverb goes, “ Where there is a will, there is a way.” Just do it.

Screams in the Desert

When my ministry adventure faltered, I found spiritual help from unexpected direction.by James Walters.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Though we’ve always heard that learning English is a process, but to learn like this way was kind of new. As far as I am concerned, learning to write an excellent and fluent English composition is just what I need. Since I’ve attended my first English class in university, honestly, I was a little bit disappointed. Despite the fact that the class was not as vivid and vigorous as I thought, I believe that there’s still something that I can look forward.

Recently, it has been a very hard time for me to get used to the new life that I am going to have from now on. I am a mess, and seem that everything goes wrong. Nothing is worthy of being happy and cheerful. The university life that I expected was so far away from the reality. Somehow the wonderland vanished, and I was pushed back into the real world. I was forced to face what I am right now, and there are still some problems unsolved. Therefore, the only thing I hope right now is that the problems which bother me a lot can be easily solved.

Actually, I haven’t taken any English class since junior high school. Maybe this does surprised you guys, but that’s true. I know that my English has a lot to be improved, and I really do need someone who can give me a hand in order to polish my English ability. Unlike others, I am good at speaking, listening and reading. The writing ability is the most important thing that I need to make progress in.
